Audiovisual Installation commissioned by Sciaena for THE BIG GREEN project
The barrier islands of Ria Formosa are made up of very dynamic and fragile sandy systems. Under ideal conditions, this dune ecosystem should be able to move, but there are families who have built houses and lived there for generations, making it impossible to do so. Some say that one day the sea will take everything away. But these people know no other home. Their attachment to their land, their experiences and their memories is stronger than any rational, scientific or governmental explanation. Like the land they walk on, they are just sand grains, waiting for the waves to wash them away.
