Generative Art Work for the cover of “Agent Boogie – Decisions EP”.
“Decision – EP” was released July 27th in “Mystery Train Records”.
Including remixes from Minimonster, Gum, Dustin Nantais, and Marco Cardoza
I got this idea when I was watching / reading Daniel Shiffman’s “Nature of Code”.
Shiffman made a massive and brilliant work explaining how to simulate with code (in Processing) natural phenomena. It covers a wide range of topics like physic forces, gravity, particles systems, oscillators, autonomous agents., etc. So if you are interested in this topic check “Nature of Code”.
For the cover I created a group of particles/autonomousAgents that born exactly over each pixel of AgentBoogie’s picture, and then they flow away, they follow certain rules and are affected by physic forces that will define their flying pattern.
I picked a picture of AgentBoogie and applied a “Threshold” filter to get a Black or White picture. Then I created a group of particles/agents that had the initial position over each pixel of the black silhouette, defined their lifetime and physical forces parameters, pressed play and voilá…
Then I tried variations with the different parameters of the particles, like lifetime, force of the gravity in X and Y, acceleration, etc…
By changing these parameters the particles would move in different directions and result in very different outcomes.
I also made some experiments using the silhouette from the AgentBoogie’s logo.
Finally I made some post-production with the outcomes into the final artwork for the cover.
You can download the code and explore by yourself.
In the folder data you can change the “.jpg” to make the programme read another picture.
Explore different results by changing the values of the different parameters (acc, topspeed, lifetime, colorines,….) in the class “agentes”.
You can also export as a pdf vector file. (uncomment the line [ // beginRecord(PDF, “frame-####.pdf”);] and then press ‘Q”.
The pdf file will be saved in the project folder.
